Chinese New Year Celebration

We celebrated our Chinese New Year with the story of "Nian"(年). High in the mountains lived a horrible creature called "Nian". Throughout the year he would sleep soundly until the lunar new year arrived when he would descend upon the village. Nian would devour crops, gobble up livestock, and any child it found will disappear. One year, a villager stood up and said " Let's try to chase away Nian and protect our village. He realised that the creature is afraid of the Red, bright lights and loud noise. So he lighted the firecrackers and made loud noises by hitting and banging different things, The creature was so scared and ran away. From then on, people put up red couplets, hung up red lanterns, set off firecrackers, kept the lights on and stayed up late to keep safe from Nian.

After the story of "Nian", we had our traditional Lion dance, this year, our K2 friend created their very own "Dragon" to perform together.

The children have fun watching the Lion and Dragons performance.

After the celebrations, the children tasted the Chinese New Year snacks - Kueh Bahulu and Crispy snacks

We had a really amazing time celebrating the Chinese New Year with my friends and teachers.
